Venice Arts Gallery is currently accepting proposals from established and emerging curators and artists for its Fresh Perspectives Visiting Curator Exhibition, scheduled to take place in November–December 2013. The goals of the program are to engage and highlight new perspectives on photography, film, multimedia and/or digital arts and to offer established and emerging curators and artists in Los Angeles County the opportunity to present an exhibition in a professional nonprofit gallery. Once chosen, the curator will be solely responsible for selecting the artists and artworks for an exhibition. Each proposed exhibition must consist of at least 4 artists and have a strong, unifying curatorial premise. The artists’ work must in some way relate to photographic, film/video, and/or digital media practice. Curators must live and/or work in Los Angeles County (the artists they select do not need to be LA residents). Proposals that incorporate a public program or screening component are encouraged.
Curators must submit the following to be eligible:
-A curator’s statement detailing the proposed exhibition (up to 2 pages)
-A current resume
-A list of artists included in the exhibition
-Digital images (as jpegs, 72 ppi and at least 1000px wide) from at least 4 included artists (10–20 images)
-Current resumes of all the included artists
Applications must be submitted via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Application deadline: 5/1/2013
Application fee: $25.00
Notification date: 6/1/2013
Exhibition Dates: November 16–December 13, 2013
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 16th, 5–8pm
Venice Arts will provide the selected Visiting Curator with assistance with installation and extensive marketing & communications services, including exhibition postcards (sent to over 4,000 addresses), outdoor signage, an email invitation (sent to over 3,600 subscribers), press outreach, and social media marketing across Venice Arts’ platforms. The Gallery will host an opening reception for the Curator and Artists, will staff the gallery during normal business hours, and handle sales (Venice Arts takes 20% commission on sales). Transportation of artworks to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the participating artists and/or Visiting Curator.
