Elysa Voshell

Associate Director / Gallery & Public Programs Director

Elysa is a curator, writer, and artist working primarily in photography, printmaking, book arts, and installation. Elysa manages Venice Arts' exhibitions—those hosted at our Gallery, at other venues, and touring exhibitions—and develops related public programs including film screenings, panel discussions, and workshops for adults. She is also responsible for managing organizational communications strategies and providing broad leadership across the organization.

Prior to joining Venice Arts, Elysa was the Staff Writer at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, the Exhibits & Events Board Chair of the Philadelphia Center for the Book, and an Associate Editor at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She holds an MA in Book Arts from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, and an MLA in Visual & Curatorial Studies and a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Pennsylvania. Elysa currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Venice Chamber of Commerce. In 2010–2011, she was selected as one of twelve participants in Emerging Arts Leaders/Los Angeles’ (EAL/LA) Arts Professional Advisors Link (APAL) program, which fosters the professional growth of early career arts administrators and artists to ensure forward-thinking and sustained leadership in the Los Angeles County arts community.

Reading Room + MOPLA Photo Book Exhibition

Reception, Artists’ Talks & Book Signing: Saturday, January 21, 3:00–6:00pm | Reading Room transforms Venice Arts into a space for exploration and engagement with a wide variety of work by photographic artists working in the book form. From bookworks independently published by artists to interactive book installations and fine press publications, Reading Room brings together the centers and margins of the world of the photo book today, and offers audiences a space to contemplate and investigate the photographic book form. Anchored by an interactive installation by Ara Oshagan, the exhibition includes work by Nancy Baron, Richard S. Chow, Genevieve Coutroubis, Clay Lipsky, Kevin Lynch, Marjorie Salvaterra, and Aline Smithson.

The MOPLA Photo Book Exhibition is a juried, submission-based exhibition featuring both independently and commercially published books by emerging and established photographers around the world.
