Steven Oritt joined Venice Arts' Board in 2014 after many years as a supporter of Venice Arts' programs, including mentoring in our film department. In 2011, Steven was honored for his heartfelt commitment to Venice Arts at our Gala. See a short-short video made by our students on Steven, here.
Steven comes to directing from music videos where he has worked with various artists such as Foo Fighters, Muse, OneRepublic, Pete Yorn and Paulina Rubio among others. Along with moving into commercial work, Steven recently completed his first feature length documentary 'American Native,' which premiered at the Napa Valley Film Festival in November of 2014. Subsequently, Steven just completed production on his second feature documentary, 'An Accidental Climber,' which follows one man’s attempt to become the oldest American to climb Mt. Everest. What ensued was the worst disaster in mountaineering history.
Steven is signed with Terrero Films where he is represented for both music videos and commercials. He has progressed into longer format pieces including live-concert DVDs and the 1/2-hour MTV special, Backstage Pass; as well as the pilot episode for BET’s The Angie Martinez Show featuring Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez and LL Cool J.
On the commercial side, Steven has worked with such advertising agencies as Saatchi and Saatchi, Merkley and Partners, TBWA Chiat/Day, and The Richards Group, directing work for Bumble and Bumble, The Houston Rockets, and The Los Angeles Humane Society among others.
