Brigid McCaffrey

Brigid has her M.F.A. in Film/Video from California Institute for the Arts; she received her B.A. in Photography and Film from Bard College. Brigid is our former Lead Filmmaker and was once a member of Venice Arts' contract faculty, teaching both photography and filmmaking. In addition, from 2009-12 she was a filmmaking instructor at Cal Arts' California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA); from 2007-11 was a teaching assistant and guest lecturer in the graduate program at Cal Arts; and, from 2004-06 was a teaching assistant at the International Center for Photography in New York.

In terms of her personal practice, Brigid makes documentary films about subjects who appear to be mis/displaced in the world and the changing landscapes they encounter. Featuring Sikhs in the California desert, young female truck drivers on the American interstate, and nuns as riverboat captains, her films have screened as far afield as Rotterdam, Portland, Lisbon, Los Angeles, and Ann Arbor, where she recently won the prize for Best Cinematography. She is currently working with an itinerant geologist speculating on survivalist living in the Mojave region.
