Payment Information
Workshops are FREE to low-income families. When you make your registration appointment, we’ll tell you what to bring to determine if you qualify for free programs. While we do our best to accommodate all children, low-income families receive priority.
NEW! Open Lab (AS) (Ages 14-18)
The Friday Open Lab, from 4-6pm, is designed for students wanting more time to work on their projects. A mentor will be available for technical and conceptual questions. Self-directed, advanced students, may also use the lab Mon–Sat, by appointment.

Tuesdays
Digital Animation (Ages 12–18)
4-6pm | Level: Int./Adv.
New students learn the fundamentals of storytelling through a variety of hand and digital animation techniques. Returning students build skills in writing, story development, illustration,and animation software.
My Life In Pictures (Ages 10-13)
4-6pm | Level: Beg.
Experiment with video, photography, and animation! You’ll also get to write, direct, and shoot a series of both personal and collaborative short films and multimedia pieces
Photo Digital Darkroom Lab (AS) (Ages 14-18)
4-6pm | Level: Int.
Only open to students in the Saturday Twin Cities Project.
Wednesdays
Document This! (Ages 14-18)
4-6pm | Level: Beg.
Take to the streets to photo-document your community and learn about composition, filling the frame, and seeing light more dynamically.
Video Journalism (AS) (Ages 14-18)
4-6pm | Level: Int.
Immerse yourself in video storytelling, including working individually and in teams to complete either a short documentary film or a series of community stories. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on special projects for Venice Arts!
Thursdays
NEW! Direct This! (AS) (Ages 12-14)
4-6pm | Level: Int.
Deepen your understanding of shot composition, editing, and sound, while building skills in storytelling and directing. This workshop is supported, in part, by The Flourish Foundation.
Comics (Ages 10-18)
4-6pm | Level: Beg./Int.
New students: learn the basics of storytelling through comics, and how to hand draw, scan, ink, and letter their stories. Returning students: perfect your craft through character and story development and deepen your Photoshop skills.

NEW! The Art of Exposure (AS) (Ages 12-14)

Ready to take your photography to the next level? Develop your technical and creative skills and work on composition, storytelling, editing, sequencing, and digital imaging in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Art Discovery (Ages 8-9)

Explore visual art, experimenting with a range of media, and prepare yourself for our media-based classes when you are older.
Document This! (Ages 10-13)

Take to the streets in this photography class emphasizing composition, filling the frame, and learning to see light more dynamically.
Movie Madness (Ages 10-13) - *CLASS FULL, sorry!

Dive into film and video production as you capture the energy of Venice Beach and its surrounding locations. Learn storyboarding, directing, and editing and create a series of short films.
Twin Cities: Hong Kong & L.A. | A Special Photography Project (AS) (Ages 14-18)
*CLASS FULL, sorry!

Embark on an international journey! Shoot digitally or with film, write, and collaborate with a teen photographer in Hong Kong to explore the cultural, personal, and urban stories of both cities.
This special project culminates in an international exhibition that opens in Hong Kong!
Participation is by permission of instructor. You must participate for the entire year (October-May), and sign up for a darkroom and/or digital lab during the week.
*Stay on Track—Join Advanced Studies! Classes marked (AS) are part of our Advanced Studies Track. You can join at the intermediate level and stay through graduation! You’ll leave with an outstanding portfolio or reel that supports your college, work, and scholarship applications. AS students get to work on exciting projects and qualify for paid Internships at Venice Arts, opportunities to work at creative companies, and more! For info contact: info@venice-arts.org.
