POSITION DESCRIPTION: MEDIA AND PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Working under the supervision of the Director of Education, the Media and Program Assistant is primarily responsible for providing program assistance to Venice Arts’ Arts Mentoring & Education program for youth, and providing media and technical support across the organization. Working a Tuesday-Saturday schedule, and expected to start May 1, 2017 specific responsibilities include:

  • Support youth outreach and registration activities
  • Do exhibit printing and installation, as requested
  • Implement outreach to volunteer artists, mentors, and others including up-dating volunteer positions on the website, updating online postings, and related activities
  • Work with the Administrative Assistant to assure that all student files are accurately entered into the database and hard folders
  • Provide reports for the database, at least once per quarter and as requested
  • Upload work samples and mentoring images provided by staff Leads
  • Document classes and other, Youth Art Mentoring activities
  • Provide first-line IT and OS support across the entire organization Visual Archive and File Management
  • Using Venice Arts’ archiving protocol, archive photos, films, and multi-media
  • Train faculty on Venice Arts’ file management protocols
  • Set-up/break-down classes in shared spaces, assuring equipment is accounted for and in working order
  • Assure the software external drive is updated with current software and related licenses
  • Act as a Teaching Assistant in at least one workshop per academic cycle

    Qualifications:
    The ideal candidate is a graduate of a photography, photojournalism, or multi–media program with experience working in analog and digital formats. She or he must be extremely well–organized, detail–oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities. She or he demonstrates a high level of expertise with cameras, computers, and software, particularly image management software and the most current versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. Familiarity with Adobe Premiere a plus. Candidate should be familiar with a variety of scanners and large format Epson inkjet printers; extremely comfortable with technology; and experienced with tech–based problem–solving. Applicant must know the ins and outs of Mac OS X 10.5 or higher but need only have a basic knowledge of HTML to apply. Must be committed to the education and development of youth; an understanding of the needs of “at–risk”, low– income youth is a plus, as is experience in a mentoring program.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: CREATIVE PATHWAYS COORDINATOR
    Working under the Director of Education, the Creative Pathways Coordinator has two key areas of responsibility: (1) 50% teaching and mentoring young people in photography, filmmaking and/or multimedia; and, (2) 50% coordinating all Creative Pathway activities. Scheduled to start June 1, 2017, specifics responsibilities include:

  • Act as Lead Artist for 4 two-hour/week academic year classes and 1, three-hour, daily summer class.
  • Interview, train, and oversee volunteer artist-mentors, teaching assistants, college students and/or other interns assigned to these classes
  • Assure the upload of work samples and mentoring images at key points in the workshop cycle
  • Coordinate College Track activities according to an established work plan
  • Develop and build existing partnerships with other academic institutions and organizations to assure that program goals are met in an effective and efficient manner
  • Work with the Art Mentoring Team to identify and place student interns at Venice Arts
  • Maintain a calendar of national, state, and local awards and competitions, coordinating “mini-workshops” and other Art Mentoring team support to assure robust participation by students.
  • Develop, orient, support, and coordinate the efforts of a volunteer pool for college workshop days, 1:1 and small group support, college counseling, and career days
  • Assure the creation of stills documenting the Creative Pathways programs
  • Assure up-to-date flyers, e-communications, and presentations
  • Track process (participation, retention) and impact data that will help evaluate the program; prepare a report on the program at least twice per year; recommend data-driven adjustments

    Qualifications:
    The ideal candidate is a graduate of a photography, filmmaking, or multi–media program (graduate degree preferred, but not required), with experience working with both analog and digital processes. She or he has a strong background in documentary storytelling, while being adept at working in other forms and demonstrating a broad knowledge of historic and contemporary practices; a working artist preferred. She or he is extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities. Must posses a high level of technical expertise with cameras, computers, and software, including current versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, and Adobe Premier, while also demonstrating an educational approach that emphasizes the development of youths’ conceptual knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity. An understanding of the needs of “at-risk” low-income youth is a plus, as is experience in a mentoring program. Experience supervising volunteers a plus. Candidate has at least two years experience teaching media to young people (middle- and high-school preferred), and is highly proficient at building a syllabus with sequenced lesson plans that support arts learning objectives, while demonstrating an interactive, experiential, and project-based approach. Candidate demonstrates an understanding of the matrix of college support activities. An artist with prior experience in a college or career preparedness a plus.
