Confused about the new healthcare law? Check out this program The Actor's Fund is running for members of the arts and culture community:
“The Actor's Fund is the only arts or entertainment related organization to receive an "outreach and education" grant from Covered California for the first 18 months of the program in 2013/14. As such, we are providing educational workshops in five counties: Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Alameda and Sacramento. The workshops cover the basics of health care reform, the insurance exchange, federal subsidies for monthly premiums, and how to sign up. In addition to traveling around the state, we have staff in our Los Angeles office who are providing workshops every week that are open to the entire community. The grant also enabled us to create a call center/helpline that is available to anyone in the community during office hours. There are no costs and no eligibility criteria for these services. One only needs to identify as a member of our arts and cultural community. Below are links to our website’s Covered California webpage and a flyer for the Helpline.
If you are interested, I would encourage you to call sooner rather than later, as the deadline for 2014 open enrollment is March 31, and we are booking up very quickly.
Please contact Brigid Sweeney, our project manager, if you would like to discuss any of this or get something on the schedule. Her direct line is 323-933-9244, extension 433. After nearly 2 decades of focusing on helping artists connect with affordable health insurance and health care, we are thrilled that it is now becoming a reality."
