outstanding artist-mentor: Bazille
Venice Arts is so happy to honor Bazille, a successful commercial photographer and an artist-mentor in our Advanced Studies: Photography program, as this year’s Outstanding Artist-Mentor. It takes a special person to spend countless Saturday afternoons mentoring young photographers; upending his schedule to support them when they presented their work at the Annenberg Space for Photography; and joining them on a field trip to the home of PAC-LA photo collectors Barbara and Roger.
Bazille understands how important it is to expand the circle of people and companies supporting Venice Arts, through financial contributions and by organizing unique opportunities for our participants: career-directed field trips to Disney Animation, participation on our Creative Careers panels, and financial literacy workshops.
Advanced Studies’ student Lilia says it best:
“Not only is Bazille an amazing mentor, but he is also a role model and an overall wonderful person. Lorraine (another student) and I talk with him on car rides, field trips, and during class about pretty much anything, including what we see in our futures and our plans for college. Bazille always gives advice as if we are his kids.”
“When working on projects at Venice Arts, I always know I can ask Bazille about anything. He offers constructive criticism in a way that doesn’t belittle you or your project. You know that he believes in you and that he wants to help you realize your full potential.”
“It feels good to know someone is always in your corner. For us, that is Bazille.”
For being in our corner, Bazille, thank you!
